Troop 5391 is a girls-only Scouts BSA troop where Scouts learn outdoor skills, work in patrols, explore merit badges, serve, and develop leadership.

The Local Troop

Scouts learn to lead by doing the work

Meetings are designed to be Scout-run. Youth increasingly help choose activities, make plans, teach skills, and carry out the program through patrol teamwork while trained adults provide coaching, safety, transportation, administration, and resources.

Troop 5391 is a developing troop. Its outdoor program, leadership experience, and local merit-badge support will grow as Scouts and adult volunteers build the program together.

Program Direction

Building toward a strong outdoor program

The troop aims to offer one outdoor adventure each month. Depending on the program and preparation, that could be a hike, campout, skills activity, service project, or another outdoor challenge.

Patrol teamwork

Scouts work in smaller patrols, divide responsibilities, practice skills, and learn to support and lead one another.

Camporee and summer camp

The troop plans to participate in Spring Camporee and attend summer camp at Camp Rainey Mountain for outdoor experiences and merit-badge opportunities.

Progress toward backpacking

Scouts will progressively build the skills and equipment familiarity needed for backpack camping rather than being expected to begin with advanced trips.

Camping Equipment

Know what the Scout brings and what the troop shares

Ask troop leadership for the activity-specific packing list before purchasing equipment. Immediate needs are personal gear; shared group equipment is supplied by the troop. Any gear-loan request is handled case by case.

Families Provide

Personal equipment

Appropriate clothing, a sleeping bag, a mess kit, and other personal items identified for the specific activity.

Troop Provides

Shared group equipment

Tents, group cookware and utensils, and group food supplies for troop activities.

Advancement And Merit Badges

Set goals and explore interests

Scouts advance at their own pace using current Scouting America requirements. Merit badges create opportunities to explore outdoor skills, hobbies, careers, citizenship, and service. The troop is developing its local counselor network, so many current merit-badge opportunities come through district and council programs.

Adults who support the Scout-run program

The Scoutmaster and Unit Commissioner handle most questions about visits, registration, equipment, advancement support, and family participation.
